I am going to the wealdstone v Maidenhead game on April 16th to see my boyhood hero Alan Devonshire.
Might even get to have a cheeky half with the man with a bit of luck.

Thanks for uploading that it was a great watch although I couldn't understand what on earth Ray Stewart was saying in his interview!!

What I did notice is was it Paul Allen flagged offside against Everton when he scored in the first game because he ran from behind the defenders so it looks like we received shocking Refereeing decisions in those days as well !!

Brooking, Dev, Bonds all class with Phil Parkes a colossus and what on earth was Frank Lampard doing that far up the pitch?! Brilliant.

Swindon Dev severely damaged the ligaments in his right foot but trained his left to be as good. He was as good then as he ever was before maybe even better because he adjusted his game. He was slightly slower in pace but more measured and effective and more focussed on goal. He was a great great player.

Amazing how shit colour TV used to be.

You certainly stood out if you wore red on the terraces

Loved that video!

My thoughts watching the first tie in the semi against Everton were that Alan Devonshire would of got sent off for putting hands on a Ref if that was now.

Ray Stewart was probably fortunate to not be sent off along with the Everton player as the commentator said he was already on a Yellow card.

Everton's penalty was ridiculous there was no push or contact at all.

Everton's goalie Martyn Hodge made 2 fantastic saves from Ray Stewart & Billy Bonds which would of been considered great saves today.

Devonshire must be able to walk on water, what a player he was and it's a shame for me that I only started following West Ham in the 84/85 season when he was injured so only saw glimpses of his skills during 85/86 season when he was probably only about 60 - 70% of what he was before his injury.

That pitch for the semi final first match was atrocious.

Yet what I remember it was a fantastic FOOTBALL match played on the floor... that's why it cracks me up people moaning today as UP has a few bald patches... laughable

Good memories there. Thanks for reminding. From when, in short trousers, I knew I was a Hammer for life.

Sir Trevor
Devo
Bonzo
Phil Parkes
Geoff Pike
Ray Stewart
David Cross
Alvin... et al

And, of course, John Lyall.

What a superb team we had! I'm going to watch it again.

That Villa team won the European Cup and Billy wasn't even playing! What a bunch of players we had!

Brooking and Devonshire gliding across the mud heaps, while lesser players were getting stuck in them.

I don't buy the idea that poor pitches are a great leveller.

Oh that is fucking glorious.... so many memories.... went to a few of those (with me Dad and Unc) including the away game at the Hawthorns (one of the greatest goalkeeping performances from Cossack man )and the 1st semi at Villa Park (1st time I have reseen the Paul Allen offside goal since then and still say it was ok)... semi final replay listened to the game in me bedroom ... absolute mental when Frank scored... Mum came thundering up the stairs as I woke me young sister up... apologised and talked her around watching highlights on sportsnight.... Dad tried to get tickets for final to no avail... feel bad looking back as did not watch the final with him even though took us to loads of matches that year... watched it with a couple of Mates (brothers) on Canvey and their Dad... afterwards the Dad was going mad as he had put a fiver on us to win the FA cup at the start of the comp... remember him coming out the bookies smoking a cigar after picking his winnings up... dropping us three kids in the wimpy bar whilst he popped in the Haystack!!

That video brought it all coming back.... great stuff
